Trip Report 25/05/09 - 29/05/09

Just got back an hour ago!

Flights - BA, not as good an airline as they once were. In flight entertainment quite good but food average.

Hotel - Doubletree Guest Suites at Times Square. Friendly staff, nice clean room, delicious cookies and a great location.

Attractions visited - Madame Tussauds (got our picture taken with Barack Obama), United Nations, Nintendo World, St Patrick%26#39;s Cathedral, Rockefeller Centre, Central Park (Strawberry Fields), Sony Wonderlab, Statue of Liberty %26amp; Ellis Island, Ground Zero, St Paul%26#39;s and the Empire State Building ( although never got to the top - zero visibility.

Shopping - didn%26#39;t do that much, husband and son are not shoppers but we did pop in to Century 21 and Macy%26#39;s.

Broadway shows - Blithe Spirit and 39 Steps. Got half price tickets for both from the TKTS booth opposite the hotel. Never had to wait in a line and both times got great seats. Preferred Blithe Spirit. Can%26#39;t believe we got to see Rupert Everett and Angela Lansbury in the flesh. Highly recommend this show.

All in all we had a good time and will return again in the future. For those going to New York, it was heaving with tourists. Definitely no credit crunch in Times Square!

Good TR gotta love Times Square.

I can%26#39;t wait until it%26#39;s my turn to go to NYC!!

Thanks.

Times Square was hetic all day, every day we were there. Lots of people trying to sell tickets to Comedy shows and the hop on hop off bus tours. Did get a bit wearing by the end of our visit.

We did the Grayline hop on hop off tour. Was okay as it gave my husband and son, who had not been to New York before, a good overview.

We were lucky in that we never had to wait in line for anything more than five minutes. Walked straight in to Madame Tussauds, got on a tour of the United Nations within 15 minutes of arriving, Sony Wonderlab I had pre-booked but again it was quite quiet at 2.00pm when we arrived. Got on a ferry immediately for the SOL. Ellis Island was heaving with school groups so didn%26#39;t really get to take in the atmosphere.

TKTS booth was at its quietiest around 5.30pm so that%26#39;s when we headed over to get our tickets. As I said before got great seats for both shows. Blithe Spirit - 10 rows from the front and 39 Steps - 15 rows from the front. Really liked that both theatres gave you a complimentary programme when you arrive. We have brought them home as a keep sake.

On Thursday after visiting SOL %26amp; Ellis Island we decided to walk back to Times Square. Little did we know it would take us just short of 4 hours but on the way we did get to stop in at a few interesting shops. Came across a book store called The Strand. It had an impressive array of books. We also came across a store, which I think was called Yellow Rat Bas****. My son, who is 14 really liked some of the stuff but we didn%26#39;t buy anything. Too scared to walk about Glasgow with teeshirts containing the word Bas****.

He really liked the Nintendo World Store and we did buy a few teeshirts from there. Again the store was quite quiet so he got to try out a few new Wii games.
