I%26#39;ll be staying in the Catskills and want to day-trip to NYC. What%26#39;s the big deal about driving in the city? Are there places between Callicoon and NYC to park my car and jump on a train?
Transportation to the CityThe big deal is just typical big city crap; lots of traffic, expensive parking, slow streets, expensive bridges and tunnels. It%26#39;s doable, just annoying.
A good train option would be, take 17B to 17 to 87 and drop your car off in Suffern, NY. Trains leave every hour or more often, take about an hour, sometimes you might need to change trains, cost $15-20 round trip, here%26#39;s the schedule.

Transportation to the Cityagree with the other post on the first question. you need not drive down to suffern. you can park (free on weekend, $2-3 during the week) at otisville, middletown or another stop along the Port Jervis line operated by NJ transit (although the stations beong to the metro north), or you can drive across the river to one of the hudson line stations on the metro north like beacon ny, which has the same parking deal. the latter will be more driving but less time on the train.
I beleve Suffern you need a permit for. There is a park and ride on 17 in ramsey that is $4 on weekdays before 10am and $2 after 10am and all day saturday and Sunday,.

The advantage of driving to Suffern or Spring Valley is that the NJT trains are much more frequent than the Port Jervis Line trains. MUCH more frequent.
Spring valley trains are not as frequent a Suffern trains. Whatever you do the Port Jervis/Main/Bergen combo and the Pascack Valley are all on New Jersey Transit%26#39;s Hoboken Division will have to change at Secacus for service to NYC.
Thank you, thank you, all you NYers and NJers! That%26#39;s exactly what I was looking for! I love this website. It makes traveling so much more fun when you have all the info before you leave home.
Now, here%26#39;s a question. Where will I find minor league baseball teams playing ball between Callicoon and NYC? I know Scranton hosts a minor league.
I%26#39;m already looking for major league tickets -- probably not gonna happen for the exhorbitant costs.
Do you know there are 2 minor league teams in NYC? Brooklyn Cyclones and the Staten Island Yankees. The Cyclones are very popular, esp. with kids.

I don%26#39;t know where Callicoon is but the when up by my sister I have gone to Binghampton Mets games. The Hudson Valley Renegades play in Beacon. You also have some teams in New Jersey, mostly Independent. The Newark Bears, the New Jersey Jackels in Little Falls at Montclair State. The only New Jersey Minor leaugue team affileated with a Major Leugue team is the Lakewood Blue Claws(Phillies). You also have one team in Broolyn and one in Staten Island. Here is a link.

Thanks for the links and info about the minor league teams. I%26#39;ll be mapping out a plan tonight.
No problem.
