Is this place legit?

The prices during low season seem too good to be true, but it%26#39;s listed on bedandbreakfast.com. You would think they would check it out before listing it on their site.

The rooms at South Street Seaport say they are over or near the Tiffany%26#39;s building. According to the Tiffany site, the new store will be on Wall Street. What gives?

Is this place legit?

Cathy, those apartments look really good. Are those prices so out of whack with other apartments in the city?

That Tiffany%26#39;s reference does seem very odd as the new store is 37 Wall Street which is hardly South Street Seaport!

Is this place legit?

I can%26#39;t tell, Nic, which is why I%26#39;m asking. It seems too good to be true to get an apartment of that quality for less than $250. I solicited some quotes from one of the recommended sites and found that a 1 bedroom with a sofa bed was around $200. Those were pretty dingy looking and didn%26#39;t have the touches of these like wood floors, granite counters, and stainless appliances. 2 bedrooms got into the range of $300 and still didn%26#39;t look that much better.

I%26#39;m hoping it%26#39;s legit because it would be a great deal. As much as I loved the UWS, it would be worth it for these places.

The south street seaport is about 5 min walk from the new tiffany store on wall street, so thats pretty close.

If they take Credit Cards (directly, not thru a third party) the are most likely a real business. If they are listed with the Better Busines Bureau they are ligit, but not being listed means either they are not a member and have not had any complaints sent to the BBB, or they do not exist,. there is no way to check which it is

Low season in NYC is jan and feb, rates just under $200 are not out of the question, even lower some places.

Al, what they actually say is: ';This one-bedroom apartment is in one of the South Street Seaport Area鈥檚 most desirable and beautiful buildings. A century-old jewel, it has just been magically transformed into a modern luxury residence -- with Tiffany%26#39;s opening on the retail level.';

That makes it sound to me that the apartment is above Tiffany.

I%26#39;m always suspicious of websites with no address and no contact info except an email address and/or a cell phone number. That%26#39;s what this website has. It does have a link to another website with a Brooklyn address. It may be perfectly legit, but given all the scams going on, I%26#39;d tread carefully.

I walk by that building every day (at least where the Tiffany%26#39;s is opening. It%26#39;s between the subway and my office. While it%26#39;s definitely not in South Street Seaport, it isn%26#39;t far.

Honestly, that building does not strike me as one where you would get a lot of people renting out their apartments, especially for cheap. The building is on Wall Street, a half a block from the NYSE and Federal Hall, I would think someone who lives there would mention those as attractions and not what is really a mall a 5 - 10 minute walk away.

Caveat Emptor.

I called this morning. The rates for next year are going up substantially from what they are listed on the site. Low season is currently listed as running $175.00-$285.00. She says that will be $300-$480 next year.

The Tiffany place is next door to the new Tiffany store according to her. She at least knew that Tiffany has not opened the store yet.

They require a 50% deposit which ';of course'; can be charged on a credit card. She said they accept bedandbreakfast.com gift certificates, so I%26#39;ll contact that company to get more information. All the surveys on the bedandbreakfast.com site are clearly from the owners and I can%26#39;t find this place on TA.

Thanks for the comments on this. I%26#39;ll enjoy the challenge of figuring it out!

I believe anything pretty much listed on Bedandbreakfast.com is Legit. Reason why. They sell B%26amp;B gift cards in retail stores. So I would assume anyone listed on there should be kosher. But you never know.

Check and check again with this apartment I thought I had a lovely apartment and thanks to trip advisor members I was saved from being scamed, plus I set up with a few friends for all us to email for the same dates and they took details for bookings for all the dates and said the apartment was available. This apartment was on a ligit site and after all the comments I made it has now been taken of the site, so please be careful

I hadn%26#39;t thought of doing that, Willow. That%26#39;s a great idea. I';ve also emailed bedandbreakfast.com asking if they can confirm it%26#39;s legit.
