HI all,
I am coming to New York City for my 4oth on June 6th for 2 days. We are going to get AMEX reward gift certificates for dinner one night.
Does anyone have an opinion on weather we should go to Ruths Chris Steakhouse or The Capitol Grill? Of course there are no prices on line so we assume they are both expensive. I would love some feed back on one over the other and also how much $$ do you think we would need for 3 for dinner?
Thanks so much!! Can%26#39;t wait for my trip!!
Ruths Chris Steakhouse or The capitol grill in NYC?
OH for god%26#39;s sake, neither! The Capital Grille is from ALTANTA for god%26#39;s sake. And while I believe Ruth Chris%26#39; is from Chicago, it is a chain. Why not take you AMEX gift card to a more genuine NYC location??????? MY god, you can probably get Captial Grille in Cooncord! There are plenty of NYC based steakhouses - and other types of restaurants - where you can use the AMEX gift card to bettter use!!
Ask if you%26#39;re interested - I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll get a 1000 ideas!

I am a Delfriscos person , but I would choose The Capitol Grill out of these choices. I would think at least $150 for 3 people.

Here is another steak house to try if you change your mind.

Thank you so much for the info, this was very helpful!
I agree - no need to go to a national chain steakhouse in NYC.
Have you tried typing ';best steak'; or ';steakhouse'; in the forum search box?
Personally, my faves are BLT Steak, Peter Luger%26#39;s and Wolfgang%26#39;s. You%26#39;ll also see Keen%26#39;s, Strip House, STK, Smith and Wollensky%26#39;s, Old Homestead, Del Frisco, craftsteak and others mentioned a lot.
You can type those names in the search box, too, or read reviews here:

Personally, I have been to the Capital Grille a few times and have not been overwhelmed by the food for the money. I also can%26#39;t recommend the Michael Jordan Steakhouse in Grand Central as I think that%26#39;s worse then Capital. I like the Bull and Bear steakhouse for fabulous filet mignon. Salads and appetizers are around $10-$20 per person, entrees are $33-$50 per person, you%26#39;ll want to share some side dishes ($10 per side) plus dessert.

For a truly awesome steak dining experience, I also highly recommend the Churrascaria Plataforma restaurant. I believe it is $55 per person for dinner. It is all you can eat rodizio brazilian churrascaria. Unbelievable ';salad'; bar (seafood, salads, etc etc), plus unbelievable steaks, fish, and meat, and great flambe bananas. This is not a typical buffet. It is high class, people come dressed up and the decor is very elegant.
However, I will say that there are plenty of places in the City where you can get a great steak for way less then the above places but if you are looking to splurge, this is what I would do.
I have to disagree with that last recommendation - I hate Churrascaria Plataforma for a steak. It鈥檚 just not a proper steak house. They serve everything well-done and carve it at your table - I just can鈥檛 eat a steak that way so for me it鈥檚 a total waste. I also never found it 鈥榟igh class鈥?鈥?it鈥檚 just a bunch of bankers that have come directly from work and happen to still be wearing their suits (that鈥檚 just the norm in any of these places on a weeknight). I would describe the place as noisy and festive. If you鈥檙e planning a bachelor party, or have a large group this might be a good place for you. But it鈥檚 not even in the same category as the favorites QueensBlvd threw out there.
oh yes, it is a very different atmosphere from say bull and bear. it is much livelier. To each his own.
