Itinerary Change??

My family will be in New York the end of June. I just noticed on a website today that the last Sunday of June is the Gay Pride Parade. I was wondering where on 5th Ave it is held. I don%26#39;t want to run into it and/or the traffic from it. I was planning on Sunday being our second day of ';hop on/off'; the bus and will go in the opposite direction of where it is. If it is in the Central Park area, we will go to the Lower area and vice versa. Anyone know?

Here is info and map, starting at 52nd Street and 5 th Avenue, going south. Check it out.

It%26#39;s held on quite a lot of Fifth Avenue, actually. From 52nd, it runs downtown and downhill on Fifthto 8th. Right at 8th to Chistopher, where Stonewall Inn will be on the right and the Claes Oldenburg Gay/Lesbian sculptures will be on the left. It%26#39;s a fantastic parade.

If you%26#39;re sure you want to avoid it, you%26#39;ll have to pretty much avoid the entire Village west of Washington Square Park.

Personal note: three years ago I carried the Green Party gubernatorial candidate, Frank McCourt, author of ';A Monk Swimmin%26#39;'; through the parade on a pedicab. The whole thing was lots of fun.

As has been suggested, you won%26#39;t be able to avoid the parade if you plan on being anywhere in Manhattan that day. As Manhattan is an island, there%26#39;s no way for you to go in the ';opposite direction.';

The largest concentration of spectators and celebrants will be on the west side, but I think you should prepare yourself to just deal with it.
