Hotel Beacon or Lucerne Opinion

I%26#39;ve booked both of these two hotels for a 2 night solo trip to NYC in two weeks (my first trip to NYC) and need to decide which I should cancel and would appreciate advice from those in the know on which may be better for me. I%26#39;ve selected these hotels as the UWS seems like a great place to stay (moreso than midtown).

For the Lucerne I%26#39;ve reserved a Superior Queen Suite for $225/nt and the Beacon a King Room for $220/nt., which I believe are decent rates. I%26#39;d assume the Lucerne may be a bit bigger due to the suite but I%26#39;ve heard the Beacon rooms have decent space, too. I don%26#39;t %26#39;need%26#39; a suite, although I prefer to have a bit of space vs. the tiny rooms NYC%26#39;s famous for.

I%26#39;ve read great reviews on both hotels but must admit that, from many pictures I%26#39;ve seen, the styling of the Lucerne may be a bit staid or formal which may not be an issue to some, but isn%26#39;t really what I prefer. If the hotel and room is a lot better than the Beacon, though, I%26#39;ll take the Lucerne.

Can anybody help me tip the scales on this? If I need to flip a coin in the end, so be it!

Well i stayed at the Beacon and really liked it.It is in the upper west side which is different from staying midtown much more residential and you really get a feel what it is like to live in New York.The staff was really helpfull.I don%26#39;t know anything about the Lucerne so cannor help you there.This is my view of the Beacon hope it helps.

I%26#39;ve stayed at both, most recently at the Hotel Beacon. The Lucerne%26#39;s suite will be roomier: the bathroom will be somewhat larger than the ones at the Beacon, and the suite will give you a *small*, separate living room with desk and loveseat (but there was no TV in the living area of our suite).

Since the additional space isn%26#39;t much of a factor to you and you%26#39;re not enamored with the Lucerne%26#39;s decor, I%26#39;d go with the recently renovated Beacon. I loved it there -- more importantly, you don%26#39;t see a reason not to stay there :-)

Thanks for the responses. I just may go for the Beacon if they can get me a higher room - looks like I could be pulling out a quarter though lol!

Within minutes of my last post the Beacon responded to my email honoring my request for a higher floor room c/w a skyline view - I guess my decision%26#39;s been made!
