Hi everyone,
My wife and I are flying in to LGA and staying in the Financial District on William St. at the end of June.
What options do we have regarding getting to our hotel?
We are concerned that taking a taxi would be very expensive.
We are both taking a carry-on and one piece of luggage.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Cheapest Ride to Hotel - Financial Dist.
Here are various options from the LGA website. However, I%26#39;d still take a cab.
Bus and Van Services
New York Airport Service Express Bus:
The fare is $10, which you pay in cash to the bus driver. The busses operate once every twenty to thirty minutes between 6:45am and midnight. For exact schedules call (718) 875-8200. The trip is 40 minutes to an hour and there are several stops in Manhattan:
Grand Central Terminal, 125 Park Avenue (betw. 40 and 41st Streets)
Transfer available to hotels between 27th and 59th Streets.
Air Trans Center located in the Eighth Avenue and 42nd St. Wing of The Port Authority Bus Terminal
Penn Station, 34th Street (betw. 7th and 8th Avenues)
Express Shuttle USA (formerly Gray Line):
One-way fare is $13. The busses run from 7am to 11:30 pm to locations in Manhattan from 23rd to 96th Streets. When you arrive at the airport, go to the ground transportation desk. A shuttle bus will come to pick you up within twenty minutes of your arrival. For exact schedules call (212) 315-3006 or (800) 451-0455.
SuperShuttle: (800) BLUE VAN (258-3826)
Public Transportation
The New York City subways and buses run to LaGuardia for $2.00. If you have large quantities of luggage, you will find it very difficult to manage this trip. You will need $2.00 in change, a token or Metrocard for any public bus and a token or Metrocard for any train. For more information on fares, see our bus and train pages.
The easiest route is the M60 bus which picks you up at the airport and drops you off at 116th and Broadway in front of the gates of Columbia University. From here you can take a bus, taxi or subway to anywhere in Manhattan; we don%26#39;t suggest riding the subway at night if you are new to New York.
You can also take the Q33 bus to Roosevelt Avenue-Jackson Heights or 74th Street and Broadway in Jackson Heights Queens. If you get off the bus at Roosevelt Avenue, you can catch the E or F trains into Manhattan. If you get off the bus at 74th Street, you can catch the #7 train heading into Manhattan. This train stops at Times Square where you can transfer for free to another train to take you anywhere in the city. For a detailed subway map, visit the MTA%26#39;s page.
As I said, I%26#39;d take a cab.

Take a cab...It will be worth the money spent!
Cab fare should be roughly $35, including a 20% tip, but could be more or less, depending on highway/road congestion.
Perhaps you%26#39;d feel more comfortable knowing exactly how much it will cost you? Then hire basic sedan service, e.g., All State%26#39;s charge would be $32 -- before tolls and tip:

You wouldn%26#39;t save much money by taking the New York Airport Express Service bus to Grand Central [price has gone up to $12/person] %26amp; then a #4 or 5 subway train to Wall Street; I%26#39;m assuming you%26#39;re staying at the Club Quarters downtown?
So, the very cheapest way -- $2/person now, $2.25 as of June 28 -- would be to do the MTA bus %26amp; subway transfers, which wouldn%26#39;t be a lot of fun with 4 pieces of luggage.
But here%26#39;s a good intro to our mass transit system:

Thanks everyone for your replies.
After talking with my wife, looks like we%26#39;ll be taking a cab to %26amp; from the airport but using the subway to get around town.

That%26#39;s exactly what she should do. Taxi from the airport, subway to get around. If it was JFK, the Air Train/ subway makes sense, but from LGA I always suggest taking a cab.
This is where I disagree with the majority. I can%26#39;t see spending $30.00, $35.00 or more (each way) to take a taxi when there is a very viable option available in the form of public transport.
The Q.33 bus is fast and frequent, it goes right to the subway. The subway gets me right to wherever I need to go, it barely takes any longer to use public transport.
I like eating in expensive restaurants that may otherwise be beyond my means and I enjoy drinking good wine that one might say are out of my price range. I have to make tradeoffs somewhere. I use public transportation for getting to / from the airport.
It%26#39;s hilarious to read that someone staying in the Financial District is seeking the cheapest ride.
...I%26#39;m sorry...
I am so glad I saw this information for transportation.
We will be going to NYC in July and staying at Grand Hyatt Hotel which is close to Grand Central Station.
Now I learned we can take the NY airport Express Service Bus.
Thanks !
The New York Airport Express Bus is a good option, it stops directly opposite the Grand Hyatt.
Note that if there are two of you and you%26#39;re taking the bus for $20.00 (total cost for two), the cost savings over a taxi (approx. $30.00 to the Grand Hyatt via the Queensboro Bridge [no toll]) isn%26#39;t great.
Note that the 7 train stops at Grand Central and the NYC buses from LaGuardia Airport connect with the 7 train. You can do this for $2.00 per person with a MetroCard. Simply take any of the Q.33, Q.48, or Q.72 buses to the first sign of the elevated subway tracks. Board a Manhattan bound 7 train in the direction of Times Square, alight at Grand Central. Note, the Q.33 is the fastest, most frequent and most direct. The Q.72 is good. The Q.48 goes in the wrong direction but still hooks up with the subway, just a little further from Manhattan.
Thank you. Appreciate all the Informations.
