JFK airport or Newark airport

Which airport should we land in. Seems they are both a ways away from the hotels in Times Square.

JFK airport or Newark airport

Hi

Have you read through this

To be in honest, having flown in and out of both JFK and EWR over some 30 + years, there%26#39;s not a lot of difference. Bit like saying shall I fly into London via Gatwick, Heathrow or Stansted?

Go with the cheapest flight option!

I don%26#39;t think the London airports example is a very good one as there are major differences in their locations between all 3 mentioned airports. For example it will take me an extra hour to get to Gatwick rather than Heathrow.

As for JFK or Newark, it will probably be quicker from Newark to Times Square. But it would be cheaper from JFK all assuming you are using the public transport system (AirTrain/Subway/Train). At JFK you can catch a taxi with a flat rate of $45+tax+toll to Times Square.

I%26#39;ve never been to JFK but Newark airport is excellent. You can get to New York in 20 minutes: just take the airtrain and then the NJ Transit train.

We came back on Saturday from NYC and flew in and out of Newark. It was a doddle and just $15pp each for the train which took about 25/30 mins to get to Penn Station. The fixed taxi fare of $45 from JFK ONLY relates to getting INTO Manhattan - they charge what they like to take you back. Hope this helps

This is not true. The flat fare applies in either direction. (It used to be only into Manhattan, but it changed several years ago.)

Ref Sky%26#39;s comment about London airports, it certainly doesn%26#39;t take an extra hour to get to Gatwick compared with Heathrow. If you were staying near Victoria the Gatwick Express will get you to the airport in 45 minutes, about the same or less than it would take to Heathrow. Some other London stations (eg London Bridge) also have regular trains to Gatwick. The difference is the cost. Being on the Tube (subway), its obviously cheaper to get to Heathrow, but it%26#39;s not necessarily quicker.

Getting back to New York, it%26#39;s far cheaper to get Manhattan from JFK, and if you intend to get a 7 day pass you can buy and start using it straight away when you%26#39;ve got off the air train at Jamaica or Howard Beach.

Thank you for your help.

given the choice, Newark is much nicer.
