Montauk vs Block Island

Has anyone been to both Montauk and Block Island? My boyfriend and I want to go away together and are in a toss up between the two. It%26#39;ll just be for two or three nights in mid June. We enjoy the beach and bike riding. We want to have a nice romantic weekend together. Which is better? Any suggestions for places to stay and things to do?

I%26#39;ve been to both many times - for a romantic getaway, you can%26#39;t beat Montauk. It%26#39;s charming, there are plenty of great restaurants and inns, back lanes for bike riding, cruises and boat rentals, and the Hamptons are nearby if you feel like mixing it up.

Block Island has two sides: one is a family-oriented side where you rent a house with your children and pretty much live on the beach and the other is the ';party'; side, which is both day-trippers and others who are there to get as drunk as humanely possible. I wouldn%26#39;t call either romantic - especially if you plan on hanging out in the downtown area.

The island itself, though, is beautiful. If you%26#39;re planning on tucking yourselves away in a quiet inn or B%26amp;B off the beaten track, the biking is wonderful and there are more beaches to choose from than in Montauk.

Personally, I%26#39;d choose Montauk. If you go - make sure to go to Gosman%26#39;s Dock - their TopSide restaurant overlooking the marina is great (casual)!
