Weirdest Canoe Club - EVER!

There are many pristine and beautiful places to canoe in New York State - The Gowanus Canal is not one of them. The Gowanus Canal a/k/a Lavender Lake has been an industrial wasteland for decades. Despite becoming a future ';superfund'; site, the Dredgers Canoe Club is giving FREE canoe rides in the Gowanus.

There are many interesting and weird things to do in New York. Paddling a canoe on the Gowanus Canal may be the weirdest. They have public canoe sessions on alternate Saturdays at 1:00 PM and at Wednesday at 6:00 PM. Come on out and commune with...er...nature?

Actually, it sounds like things are on the upswing here...more oxygenated water being pumped in, more water-fowl appearing (rather than foul water....sorry :) ).

Still, I wouldn%26#39;t eat the oysters.

Wow! That is one strange thing to do! My teens love to find new and unique things to do. My teen son and his friends are particularly fond of bathroom humor. It sounds like a perfect match. I am guessing taking part in this activity on a hot, humid, July night, might not be the best idea....Perhaps we%26#39;ll wait for the fall.
