Going to be in NY July 2-5. Staying in the Time Square area...need some kid-friendly reasonably priced restaurants...thanks Italian, Deli and American suggestions would be great.
restaurants in Time Square with kids...our tour guide said something like this re: food choices: the quality increases and the price decreases as you get away from the Times Square area... We found that to be true. Times Square restaurants tend to be mobbed. There are a lot of chain restaurants... you%26#39;re better off traveling a few blocks to get better food more reasonably.
restaurants in Time Square with kidsany suggestions?
I am not a fan of eating at chain restaurants when I travel, so I hate to admit this...but my kids always insist on going to Bubba Gumps%26#39;s anytime we travel someplace that has one. We have eaten at the Times Sq location once. It wasn%26#39;t horrible, and the kids had a lot of fun. Oddly enough we had the shortest wait for a table at this location over any of the others we have visited.
We also found Bubba Gump%26#39;s to be kid-friendly, as were Planet Hollywood.
In my opinion, Times Square is not a kid-friendly area in general. The marching hordes of tourists make it difficult to get through, and with small children in tow (who might be a bit overwelmed by the crowds) movement is difficult -- think of how easy it is to walk with children through a frantically crowded mall the day after Thanksgiving, triple that, and you have the idea.
As it is entirely a tourist district, the restaurants tend to be overpriced tourist traps, and chains that you would find anywhere with their prices jacked up for those benighted visitors who think that Times Square is where you are supposed to be when you visit NYC, and so never leave the place. You should avoid this mistake -- if you want reasonably priced restaurants, you really need to get out of Times Square.
One useful resource is MenuPages:
http://www.menupages.com/
You can search it by location, price, or cuisine. The neighborhood of Times Square is the West 40%26#39;s and West 50%26#39;s, or Midtown West.
I would suggest John%26#39;s Pizzaria o West 44th.
