The cross-street here is 31st Street. No one%26#39;s going to know the location simply by the street address, so always list cross-streets, please.

1) There is really no such thing as a family restaurant in NYC (imo). Restaurants that serve food that kids like (ie pizza, Italian, deli, burgers, coffee shops/diners) are the places where you%26#39;ll see more kids. NYC is also a great place to expose kids to food they might not otherwise have an opportunity to taste. Ethnic restaurants (Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, Ethiopian) are some of the least expensive and tastiest options we have.
If you%26#39;re looking for a bit nicer place, there are also restaurants that will have kids menus (the BR Guest group is one such and mostly good places).

Unfortunately tourists who don%26#39;t know better may gravitate to the chain restaurants they know from home that are kid friendly like TGI Fridays or Applebees, but these tend to be overpriced and poor quality (in NYC).
2) The Affinia Manhattan is very conveniently located for getting around and has good sized rooms/suites for families but is somewhat lacking in nearby restaurant choices. It%26#39;s across from Penn station and Madison Square Garden and tends to cater to commuters and sports spectators with fast food or pub type bars.
%26gt;The Tick Tock Diner is a block or two away on 8th ave. and popular for breakfast.
%26gt;the Playwright on 35 st. is an Irish pub that gets good reviews on menupages.com and has things like salads, burgers and wraps along with things like bangers and mash.
%26gt;Gray%26#39;s Papaya has a location not far--some of the best hot dogs in the city but it%26#39;s just a snack bar, not a sit down restaurant
%26gt;32 st. is ';little Korea'; with some very good Korean food is they%26#39;re adventurous. You%26#39;ll find places like Heartland Brewery nearby that are ok.
You%26#39;ll have a lot more luck if you head either south into Chelsea or north to the Times Square area where you%26#39;ll find places like
%26gt;John%26#39;s pizzeria (famous in a converted church with very good pizza)
%26gt;Carmine%26#39;s and Tony%26#39;s Di Napoli (Italians that serve family size portions designed to be shared)
%26gt;Tratroria Trecolori, Basilica (Italians with good food)

nywhiz made some really good points. I would add that the immediate area is not necessarily the best for food (I can%26#39;t say that I know the area really well, but I go through it all the time on foot). Since you%26#39;ll be traveling about the city, I%26#39;d plan on eating elsewhere. With the possible exception of breakfast, there%26#39;s no reason to eat near the hotel since it%26#39;s so easy to get around the city.
And I totally agree that there are not many family restaurants, as such, just restaurants where you will also find kids.
About 99.5% of restaurants are good for families. It really depends if your family is good for restaurants. ;o)
We can def help, but we need more details from you. Could you please tell us your price range, and any foods you or your kids really hate/want to avoid?
I suggest you head to Chelsea, one nabe to the south. Lots of good choices, such as The Dish, Lasagna, HK, Le Belle Vie, Intermezzo, Vynl, Rocking Horse Cafe, Cuba Cafe.
I always reco Vynl b/c it has decent burgers, cocktails and fun bathrooms!
