how would NY'ers do this

Wife and I (age 62) in town June 12-16 wonder how locals would get around town.

Palace Theatre (Broadway) to Convivo (Tudor Sq.)?

Hilton Times Sq. to Frick Collection 70 st?

Hilton Times Sq. to Metropolitan Museum?

WTC site to Hilton Times Sq.

Last time in town with another couple we shared cabs.

Would like to experience the subway, are any of these doable walks?

How about Convivo back to Hilton after dinner (9 pm) on Sunday June 14?

Thanks for your help you have taken alot of the uncertainty out of our trip.

Check your map - some of the places listed are not really walkable, in a reasonable amount of time, IMO. Subway is our regular mode of transport.

jimmydpgh,

From the Hilton Times Square to the two museums is about a 2 mile walk, and you can do it thru Central Park. If the weather is good and you are up for it, it would be very pleasant. Otherwise, take a subway.

Convivo to Times Square could be a mile walk or a quick ride on the 42nd street crosstown bus.

New Yorkers travel by Subway. At age 62, it should not be too strenuous for you. There are two sites that you need to know. The first is the MTA site which provides a good subway map:

http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/submap.htm

The second essential site in the city is HopStop. This site will provide you with directions from one address to another. It is also customizable to determine different subway routes, or walking routes:

www.hopstop.com/

Whether the walks are doable or not depends on your condition, your determination and the weather. If it%26#39;s a nice day, and you love long walks - why not. If you are someone who routinely takes a car everywhere, some of these walks, such as from the Trade Center to Times Square would be quite taxing.

Both

maps.google.com

will give you options.

';Palace Theatre (Broadway) to Convivio... ?';

I%26#39;d walk south to 42 st. and take the crosstown bus heading east to 1 st ave. OR, get a taxi if I could find one. If this is for dinner after a matinee fine. If it%26#39;s for dinner after an evening performance and you then have to go back to the Hilton Times Square, I wouldn%26#39;t pick this restaurant. I%26#39;d save it for a night with no show. For the return trip back to the hotel, the same 42 st. crosstown bus going west is perfect.

Hilton Times Sq. to Metropolitan Museum?';

The 2 museums are 10 blocks from each other on Fifth ave. You have to go north and east. You can do it by subway or bus, but either will require transferring.

';WTC site to Hilton Times Sq.';

Perfect for the subway.

Thanks to everyone.

I live here and I use HOPSTOP.COM all the time....

If its a nice day, the WTC site to Times Square IS walkable...just have water.... should take a little over an hour (WTC to Bloomingdales takes about 1.5 hours).

The only ones I know of off hand are:

Hilton TS to Metropolitan museum of Art. I would walk over to Madison Avenue and take the bus up Madison Avenue to 80th st (approx).

Same for Frick (which I believe is 70th/5th)

The tricky one is from the Palace Theater to Convivio because it%26#39;s nearly impossible to get a taxi after a show. I would take the bus. You can get the downtown M104 bus on 7th Avenue. It goes down 7th Ave. to 42nd St., where it turns left (east). Get off at 2nd Ave., the restaurant is upstairs at Tudor City (between 1st-2nd Aves.).

After dinner you can probably get a taxi, or just take the westbound crosstown bus back to your hotel. You can take either the M104 or the M42.

Thank you.

I should add that, if 7th Ave. is a zoo when you come out of the show, you can stroll down to 42nd Street and take either crosstown eastbound bus, M42 or M104. You don%26#39;t have to stand in the midst of the Times Square mayhem to wait for a bus.
