Rush hour to EWR

hi

Have a 9.15 pm flight from EWR. Last year I got a Limo service about 5pm from midtown and was at EWR before 6pm for the same flight time. Was this just lucky?

I want to be at Airport no later than 7pm really, but seems to me if wan%26#39;t to be safe, need to leave at 5pm ?

I know I could get the train from Penn and be more precise, but it will be hot, have heavy case, have a bad back etc, don%26#39;t know if I will get on the right train!!

question is, is 5pm about right, was I just lucky with traffic before

I don%26#39;t know if you were just lucky before, whether it was a different time of year or you just had a good driver. What day of the week is this and when (which month)??? 1- 1 1/2 hrs. should be enough time depending on where in Manhattan you%26#39;re starting. If you%26#39;re traveling alone, do you know about the Express bus from Port Authority? No transfers or heavy lifting required.

Take the Train. Here is the link to New Jersey Transit.

Yes, train. No surface traffic worries. Although there is a direct bus from Authority, but you can have traffic issues.

What I do is take the PATH train direct to Newark Penn Station (sometimes just a train change right across or at the platform at Journal Square) and then a cab to the airlines. The PATH stops at 33rd %26amp; 6th in NYC (and a few further stops), also World Trade Center. It costs $1.75 per person. The cab direct to the terminal is about $20 (per cab, good if you travel with a small group). I find this direct and convenient, esp. since I live near PATH station.

I know most people recommend the NJ Transit/Air Train route but I find it is a bit more of a hassle, and a few train changes.

At rush hour the cab from Penn Station would cost more as you have to get out of downtown and then onto Mc Carter and then the Airport.

Its very simple - one train change - from NJ Transit to a monorail. Unlike going to JFK where millions of people who dont speak English manage with no problem...

but since the OP said they have a bad back, and it will be hot - I would just leave 1.5 hours and take a cab. Unless its raining - then leave more time. In no traffic it shouldnt take more than a 1/2 hour so in rush hour an hour and a 1/2 should be OK.

If you can manage the bag on the train (hello fitbloke? I%26#39;m a middle aged woman with heavy photo equip and have no problem!), there is really no way to get on the wrong train. There are overhead screens all over the NJ Transit part of Penn Station with the trains listed - any train with ';EWR'; next to it will stop at Newark.

Yeah if you can afford it, and you give yourself plenty of time, do the cab. NJ Transit and AirTrain Newark in the summer, during rush hour, can be a miserable proposition.

AirTrain Newark has my undying loathing... it%26#39;s slow, often crowded and hot, and seems to have a habit of breaking down every other time I go there.

Last time it was a july afternoon last year, a Tuesday, next time will be a 3 weeks today.
