Coney Island Ave & Quentin in Brooklyn? Safe enough to see?

We plan on walking the bridge, grabbing some pizza and then heading towards coney island. However, my FIL grew up at Coney Island %26amp; Quentin, so my husband and I were going to stop by and see the area. Maybe snap a picture of his old home.

Thanks in Advance.

Oh and it%26#39;s not that we think NYC is dangerous, but as in all cities, there are parts of town that you should probably avoid. We just want to be sure that this isn%26#39;t one of them. :-)

It%26#39;s safe but not very exciting. Pretty significant Orthodox Jewish community there (so don%26#39;t go on a Saturday. Places will be closed.) Lots of yeshivas, synagogues, etc. but also, just as many fast food places, chain pharmacies, etc.

Have you tried the ';Street View'; feature on www.maps.google.com? It%26#39;s amazing! It will recognize ';coney island avenue and quentin road, brooklyn ny';. You%26#39;ll see the area is nice but fairly nondescript.

Very easy to get there from Coney Island. Take the Q train to the Kings Highway stop, and you%26#39;re right there.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. My husband would really like to see where his dad grew up. Maybe bring back some photos of the area. His dad has been gone from NYC for 40 years, so it might be quite different now! :-)

Thanks also for the subway directions!

That area of Coney Island, Kings Highway is safe. It is a mixed neighborhood of housing and light retail. Not much to see, but a pretty representative neighborhood. For a nearby dining experience hop on the Q train and head to Avenue U. There are some great Vietnamese Restaurants in the area. Here%26#39;s my wife%26#39;s favorite. Especially for the soups.

Welcome to Brooklyn

Yes, I grew up near Quentin but closer to Flatbush Ave. I agree that it is safe, and boring. And will have ';meaning'; for you. And will give you a chance to see a ';real'; NY place tourists don%26#39;t usually see. Do it!

Been there many times its very safe and enjoyable.

Thanks again to all the confirmations. We will definitely make a stop there to see the neighborhood.

One thing - don%26#39;t go to Ave U to eat. Find a kosher restaurant on Kings Hwy and have a meal there - much more interesting.
