Brighton Beach Restaurants

We are going to Brighton Beach for a day and are looking for an authentic Russian restaurant. Two years we went there and came across a small Russian restaurant which served great food. I think the name was Varennik or something like that. They served small plates like tapas, they call it i think zakuski.

It was great and inexpensive.

Thanks

Brighton Beach Restaurants

I was unable to find a restaurant named Varenik or any similar variation. Vareniki are ukrainian dumplings, and thus may have been a dish that you ordered. Zakuski are Russian appetizers of various types. Heres an article on them:

You won%26#39;t go hungry on Brighton Beach. My favorite is to get takeout foods from one of the gastronome places, get an apple turnover from a vendor, and take them to the boardwalk where I eat them on a bench as I people watch. Great and inexpensive!

Brighton Beach Restaurants

I usually go to Primorski%26#39;s (my personal favorite) or Gina%26#39;s Capuccino.

There%26#39;s often some sort of party going on at the more formal places on the weekends, and Primorki%26#39;s always lets average folks sit in. I think Arbat and others are similar, but we always end up at Primorski%26#39;s

The places on the boardwalk are slightly pricier, but still good.

Essentially, it%26#39;s hard to go wrong. As was said, you wont%26#39; go hungry. Don%26#39;t get intimidated by the ';attitude'; (the maitre d%26#39;s and doormen can seem unwelcoming, but just ignore it.) And remember to say ';Spa-SEE-bo';! (';Thank you.';)

Thanks,

Thanks

pdq - my favorites are:

1. M %26amp; I International Foods - has easily the biggest selection of Russian and Eastern European products in town. Taking up a third of the block and two levels, it has a butcher section, a giant line of cold cuts and sausages of all sorts

249 Brighton Beach Ave

(between Brighton 1st Pl %26amp; Brighton 2nd St)

(718) 615-1011

2. Taste of Russia - best homemade Russian food in BB

219 Brighton Beach Ave

(718) 368-1560

3. Golden Lamb Deli - cheese, cakes, cookies and candy!

281/285 Brighton Beach Avenue

(718) 743-3900

Thanks

A similar restaurant, Cafe Glechik, is located on Coney Island Avenue just off Brighton. It is a great locals spot with a BYOB policy. Try the shashlik.

However, if you%26#39;ve never eaten on the Boardwalk before and are feeling like splurging a bit, try Tatiana Cafe. It%26#39;s the best place to people-watch in the neighborhood. Make sure you get a seat outside.
