I found an apt for rent in NYC on VRBO - have corresponded by e-mail with the poster but just preliminary - no $ has been sent. Poster provided the exact address of the property when I asked and the property has some good reviews posted by previous clients. Looks like this poster also advertises on bestnycvactionapts.com. I have looked over previous threads on TA on apts for rent in NYC and am now very skeptical of going any further. Is there a way to find out if the post if legit or should I just bag the vrbo idea altogether?
Apts for rent in NYCbag it and find a hotel
Apts for rent in NYCThe chance of the rental being 100% legit are slim to none. Forget the entire idea of looking on VRBO, and get a hotel.
I%26#39;m always surprised when someone comes on the forum and states they%26#39;ve actually Read all the prior posts strongly advising Against NYC apartment vacation rentals (mostly illegal and/or scams) and Still asks if they should just go ahead.
What surprises me even more is the infinite patience of the De%26#39;s and regulars on the NYC forum who take the time to explore the legitimacy of each rental, so you%26#39;re probably in luck here.
Still: I%26#39;d %26#39;bag%26#39; the idea and get a lovely, reasonably priced hotel room instead..maybe a room with a kitchen like an Affinia property or an RCA room.
What%26#39;s your lodging budget?
When are you coming here?
Forget VRBO or in fact any method of renting a vacation apartment in NYC. Most are illegal or worse, are scams.
If you post your dates, number of persons and nightly budget, we can provide some hotel recommendations for you.
Thanks for the input - I have stayed at the Affinia Dumont before but I think I am going with Lucern this time around - I need to be close to Columbia University. Any other suggestions welcome - coming at the end of this month into the beginning of July.
Why do you need to be near Columbia? You simply need the right subway line to take you to W. 116th Street and environs.
Anything on the #1 line will be fine for you. So that means, I%26#39;d reco looking at hotels on the UWS.
Is the Lucern not on the UWS? We%26#39;re looking for an apt for our son who is attending grad school at Columbia
Your son is moving to NYC? Then he shouldn鈥檛 be looking at vacation rentals but real apartments. Get in touch with a real estate agent 鈥?this is the best/most expensive in town and they%26#39;ll be able to help you figure out proximity to trains:
www.corcoran.com/property/search.aspx鈥?/a>
But I have to ask 鈥?isn鈥檛 your son old enough to be doing this on his own?
