Redeye Grill a good choice pre-theatre?

Is Redeye Grill a good choice for a pre-theatre dinner for us?

We%26#39;re seeing ';In the Heights'; at the Richard Rodgers theatre at 8pm on Wednesday, July 1.

After arriving in NYC ~ 8am, we plan on Staten Island ferry, shopping Greenwich/SoHo area and checking into the Iroquois hotel on W. 44th before going to dinner and the theatre.

We want to spend somewhere in the neighborhood of $30/person and I read that Redeye Grill has a prix-fixe dinner for $35. We want good food, good location for our itinerary and a nice NYC experience.

Is this a good choice or are there any other suggestions?

Redeye Grill a good choice pre-theatre?

Most places in the neighborhood have a pre-theatre prix fixe menu at a price which frees you up to dine somewhere you might not otherwise be able to afford.

For a ';classic NYC'; experience, the 21 Club has a nice $35 pre-theatre menu served in its Bar Room:

I like the West Bank Cafe but unfortunately the current $30 dinner isn%26#39;t captivating:

And I%26#39;m fond of Akdeniz, a sweet little Turkish restaurant; even if you don%26#39;t order from the $21.95 prix fixe menu, you%26#39;d be hard pressed to pay more than $35/person:

Any interest in Thai food?

CockleCove,

Akdeniz looks interesting! I%26#39;ve never had Turkish before. My friend isn%26#39;t fond of Greek, is Turkish too close to Grreek in taste? I like Greek.

21 Club looks nice too.

Thanks so much for the ideas.

Tough for me to imagine not liking Greek fare :-)

But yes, the fare at Akdeniz is quite similar. My suggestion: have her look at the online menus to see what she thinks. I would add that the dishes I%26#39;ve had there have not been heavily spiced; indeed, a friend of mine who has spent a lot of time in Turkey commented that the food -- like many Turkish restaurants here -- did not have the ';complexity'; of spices you%26#39;d find there. Since much of the menu is innocuous (e.g., grilled chicken), I%26#39;m thinking she shouldn%26#39;t be put off by the place.

Thanks again CockleCove, you seem to be my answering angel :-)

My friend has vetoed Turkish.

I like the idea of prix-fixe. Yes, it would give us the feel and taste of a place without a huge price tag.

How dressy is the 21 Club? We certainly won%26#39;t be wearing jeans and tennis shoes but,I don%26#39;t think we want to wear cocktail type dresses and I%26#39;m not a huge walker in heels.

The 21 Club looks like a nice place and I wouldn%26#39;t want to feel dressed out of place. Your opinion?

Sorry, I hit the Submit too quickly, so let me try this again.

You%26#39;ll be fine in the Bar Room -- where the $35 prix fixe dinner is available -- with nice slacks %26amp; blouse/top. No jeans or sneakers though, and jackets are required of men (even in the Bar Room) and ties are encouraged at dinner there too; they ditched the tie-at-dinner requirement earlier this year.

Will this be the THE best dining experience of your life? No, but the 21 Club has ';held up'; (better than, e.g., Sardi%26#39;s imo and less expensive, even in the pricier Upstairs dining room); I think it%26#39;s fun to experience a piece of old-time NYC; and you can spend more $$ elsewhere in this town and leave less satisfied.

Did you see this page where, in celebration of its 80th anniversary, you%26#39;ll receive a free cocktail or glass of wine if you make your reservation through Club 21%26#39;s website?

www.21club.com/web/onyc/comp_cocktail.jsp

Yes, I did see the free cocktail but, the site said it wasn%26#39;t good with weekly specials or something like that. I took it to mean that it wasn%26#39;t good with the prix-fixe dinner, maybe I read it wrong?

It%26#39;s OK if it%26#39;s not the best meal of my life, 21 Club looks like a place Frank Sinatra would hang out. The website showed the favorite tables of ';famous'; people. I thought that was kind of a fun read :-)

I think I%26#39;ve previously mentioned that I love old classic things. There%26#39;s a difference to me in classic things and things that have gone past their prime but, still hang on.

Thanks again for coming to our aid, CockleCove.
