I%26#39;m visiting from out of town and on Wednesday June 10th I%26#39;ll be taking the LIRR train from Penn Station to Westhampton. I bought a late time (8:30p) because i was told that at peak time it gets crowded. Will I have to worry about finding the right train and where to be at the right time?? How far in advance shoud i arrive
thanks ,Dennis
Penn Station to Long Island
The train leaves on schedule, from its posted track. LIRR tickets are not for specific hours.
Penn Station to Long IslandOne warning- Penn station has three sections- Long Island Railroad, New Jersey Transit, and Amtrak. (Long Island Waiting Room is down one level from Amtrak)
At 8:30pm you are past normal rush hour so it shouldn%26#39;t be too confusing and there are a lot of guards around who can help if you get lost.
PS: If you are coming in from 7th Avenue (which you would be if you are staying north of Penn Station or shopping in Macys beforehand) you go down the main set of escalators and then make the first right turn you can to a second set.
As others have said, the LIRR trains leave from the lower level of the station. The signs are pretty straight forward. I would arrive 30 mins. in advance since you%26#39;ve not been to the station before.
PS you will likely have to change trains at Jamaica but the conductor should tell you. If no one is picking you up at the station, try to have the phone no. of a taxi service in case there%26#39;s not a taxi waiting when you arrive.
