newyorkstay.com?

Hi everyone,

I%26#39;m now in a mild state of panic about my accommodation having read some of the previous articles about renting apartments. 5 of us are coming to New York in June for a wedding and we have booked a 3 bedroom apartment through newyorkstay.com

There is a link on here to this website and they have featured in other articles as well - but now starting to worry about whether it is legit or not. Has anyone else stayed in apartments through this company or know if it is legit?

Thanks

I have no idea if your apt. is legit or legal or not but forum experts and regulars here have said 3 bedroom apts. are extremely rare in NYC. You can read about a reportedly legit and legal 3 bedroom apt. here in case you need a plan B:

Hi

I know nothing about this agency. Only can say this and wait until others reply. Sometimes it%26#39;s not the agency it%26#39;s the people who list? I would get the address of the apt and see if it%26#39;s legit. If you read the threads then you know that the apts maybe listed but that doesn%26#39;t me there legit.

If you can cancel I would and go with the Affinia Group of hotels.

or try www.bedandbreakfast.com

try 1871 house.

I think you%26#39;ve been scammed. I%26#39;ve looked at the 3 bedroom apartment they have in Times Square and it looks to me like they%26#39;ve taken a picture of the same bed 3 times from different angles and are trying to make you think it%26#39;s 3 different bedrooms. The bed they%26#39;re showing is IN the living room-not in a separate bedroom. I can almost guarantee that at best, this is a 2 bedroom apt. in an old rickety building with no elevator and at worst, it%26#39;s a studio (one room) with only one bed and the futon sofa shown in the pictures. The ';3 bedroom'; in Wall st. looks nice but something%26#39;s not right there either. Get your money back if you can and book something else.

PS if they asked you to wire money into a bank account, that%26#39;s an almost certain indication that you were scammed and won%26#39;t see the money again.

Thanks for all the advice folks. We are waiting on confirmation of the actual address so we can check it out. Already paid 240 dollars through paypal as deposit. At least we can hopefully find out if its a scam before we go. Don%26#39;t want to turn up and have no accommodation!

Again, it%26#39;s not the website that is the problem, it%26#39;s the listing. Sites like www.vrbo.com are legitimate in themselves, but don%26#39;t check out the apartments listed, so:

a) they may not exist

b) they may exist, but not be as described

c) they may exist, but cannot legally be rented out as a vacation apartment.

I would start looking into apartment style rooms or cheaper hotel rooms. Whilst I hate losing money of any kind, at least $240 is not your entire vacation budget.

Radio City Apartments, the www.affinia.com chain, www.apartments2book.com and the Salisbury Hotel are good places to start.

It%26#39;s illegal for you to rent a vacation apartment in the NYC, so you%26#39;re certainly being scammed on some level. As was suggested, you need to get a hotel.

The ';three-bedroom'; listing is barely in English:

Time Suare Manhattan an amazing location for your new York vacation with every thing the big apple has to offer you right on your door step. large three bedroom vacation apartment can sleep up to six guests sharing.

The apartment has three double bedrooms.

neighbourhood and location

Time Square , Manhattan. A more central location is hard to find

The 3 bedroom one we have booked is the one at wall street not the times square one. Just realised there is more than 1 and was wondering what you were referring to with time sq!

You have been scammed. As Alice said the advertisement is barely in English, I really have to ask that wasn%26#39;t a warning sign? You will show up with no place to stay, so make alternative plans (in other words a hotel). If you can%26#39;t afford a hotel for 5 people, then you shouldn%26#39;t be visiting here or should save up more money until you can get a proper hotel. It%26#39;s as simple as that.

BobbyC - They are coming to a wedding! I doubt that the bride and groom will wait. They need help now! ;)
