New York Wedding

My partner and I are planning to get married in New York in June 2010 and i have searched a few threads on New York weddings for some help! We like the look of the ladies pavillion in Central Park and are currently looking into wedding co-ordinators as i would not know where to start - i have considered virgin holiays etc but they insist your whole wedding party book with them and I just want people to make their own plans with no pressure! Has anyone had any experience of Ulimate Weddings USA, if so what were they like? Thanks for you help.

New York Wedding

Congratulations on your upcoming Wedding!!

I can%26#39;t comment on Ultimate Weddings USA, but my husband and I got married in Conservatory Gardens, Central Park in June 2007 and it was magical.

We booked our whole wedding through

www.whitesandweddings.co.uk

The staff were extremely helpful from beginning to end and nothing was a problem, despite the fact that I contacted them with hundreds of questions!!!

We booked our travel and accommodation separately, as did our families, which was no problem and worked in our favour.

There are many people on TA who can help and advise but if you have any Qs, feel free to mail me.

Happy planning!

Kay.

Most of the posters on this forum have organized wedding themselves with our help along with some other research. It%26#39;ss not that hard to do unless you%26#39;re having a big affair. There is a good search engine and by typing Ultimate wedddings in the box above I found 1 person who%26#39;s used them but for a ceremony at the Empire state building. Frankly, I think that makes a lot of sense since I don%26#39;t think you can use that location without a planner. Here%26#39;s the thread

Someone else mentions using them here

There was a co. mentioned in this thread (getmarriedinnewyork.co.uk) that I thought offered good value at the time but don%26#39;t remember what they included.

If you%26#39;re having less than 20 people, no permit is required to use Ladies Pavillion but you also can%26#39;t guarantee availability. It%26#39;s first come first served.

If you tell us what it is you plan, we might be able to help.

Thanks for your help! I would ideally like to plan the whole wedding myself but just dont know where to start!!! I know i can book the space through cental park and suppose once that is sorted just need to sort a wedding officiant etc. We envisage no more than 10 - 12 people travelling over for the wedding. I would like a small intimate wedding late in the day and then a nice meal in a top restaurant. Planning to stay at the Library Hotel.

Hi LegTra - I live at Fencehouses, near Sunderland which isn%26#39;t too far from you!

We got married at Wagner Cove at Cheery Hill in Central Park in 2007 and are planning to go back to NYC in Sept this year for our wedding anniversary.

We booked our wedding through these...

They were an ideal company to use as ther are based in Cheshire, UK.

We booked our own flights and hotel though as it worked out cheaper and also booked our own restaurant rather than using the rather overpiced one they recommended. The restaurant I chose was Trattoria Dopo Teatro near Times Square...

The restaurant was excellent. A gorgeous room with food and service to match and they also made us a wedding cake!

I booked some great flowers via a Manhatten florist and had them delivered to our hotel no problem. The florist we used were %26#39;Flowers By Richard%26#39; (212 582 3505)...

I also booked 3 horse drawn carriages with the head horseman Gerry at the main carriage stand at the 59th St entrance to Central Park.

It was a truely fabulous day!

Drop me a personal message on Trip Advisor if you require any further info.

Good luck on your big day :-)

Dave

Spot the spelling mistake! Cherry Hill not %26#39;Cheery Hill%26#39;!

There%26#39;s loads of info already on the forum about officiants and restaurants to use for a meal. Rivercafe.com

is one of the most popular. Several people have also done

bateauxnewyork.com

which has the added advantage of music and dancing.

LegTra,

My wife and I were married at the Ladies Pavillion in June 2008.

We booked through Virgin but none of our wedding party were made to do so. Virgin use (our did in our case) Ultimate Weddings USA who were very helpful and everything went to plan. If you want to use them I would contact them direct and cut out Virgin as Virgin will not book a package with the Library Hotel.

However, as NYwhiz says it is not too difficult to organise all of this yourself as all you need to attend to is the booking of the Pavillion and the License.

Others have piped in with their recomendations on various items but please look at Karen Wise for photography - 鈥logspot.com/search/label/Central%20Park

shows some of our (any my) photos in the LAdies Pavillion.

Hi, Congratulations! A fellow NYC bride to be here! We are getting married in Central Park in Sept 2010. We are making the arrangements ourselves. We looked in to using a co-ordinator, but for the price they charge, they don%26#39;t actually do that much! For example you still have to go in person to get your marriage license etc.

Regarding reserving / booking an area in Central Park, if you are thinking of The Ladies Pavilion, this area cannot be reserved you just turn up on the day and if someone is using it you have to wait. No one can reserve this spot, not even the wedding co-ords. The only place in Central Park where you can reserve a location is the Conservatory Garden, but there are permit fees associated with this. We are considering this area, due to our wedding party being around 50 people (were originally thinking of the Ladies Pavilion, but our numbers are too large now =( )

In terms of ';where to start'; you%26#39;ll be surprised at how easy it is. Google is amazing, as are the regulars on this forum =)

So far all we have done is booked our officant, we contacted a few and based on recommendations from this forum and the e-mail communication we have had with her, we have chosen Rev Alison

http://www.nyweddingclergy.com/

We can%26#39;t purchase the permits for Central Park till the start of the year, so that will be done straight after the new year.

We are currently looking at a reception venue. I have fallen in love with Alger House in Greenwich Village, but the hire charge is a killer, so currently to nego down the price (any tips gratefully received!).

If you have specific questions, please feel free to contact me as I have done a fair bit of research on NYC weddings, so may be able to help answer some questions and save you some pennies....

Cheers

Emma =)

As another NYC wedding veteran, I would just add that our plans were slightly derailed by not being able to get hold of someone for a permit for Conservatory Gardens once in NYC (this was in 2000 -was trip advisor around, then?). We managed it in the end.

I%26#39;m sure it is easier now and I think you will have much more fun organising things yourself and it will be cheaper.

We had the advantage of copying from a friend (though they were hitched at the other end of Manhattan at North Cove) - it might be an idea to have a recce visit first in 2009!

Here%26#39;s the official Central Park website. They%26#39;ll be able to help you with all things wedding in C.P.:
