what is the best travelcard to get for a 7 day NYC trip??

intend to go all the way from battery park to central park and will be doing all the touristy things.

can you use it on all buses/trains etc....???

Are you asking about the 7 day METROCARD for the subway? They are sold at every subway station. They are good on the NYC subway and REGULAR nyc buses. Not good for any other form of transport (like the PATH trains, MetroNorth, LIRR, Jersey Transit trains, etc)

can you purchase these cards in advance or only when you are due to use them?

Purchase them when you get here in the subway (tube) station. There are machines which accept cash and cards.

Molly, you can purchase whenever you want to at the subway stations. The 7-days starts the first time you use the card.
