LGA to Holiday Inn 57th Street.

We fly into LGA and arrive at 1.09pm on a Sunday (domestic flight). We need to have dropped our bags at our hotel and meet for our tour at 3pm (tour meeting place is right near us) Would traffic at this time of day be bad to get a taxi? It鈥檚 split between 3 so how much do you think a taxi would cost? Or would we be safer getting public transport? If you suggest public transport can you please tell me which subway we need to get and roughly how long that will take? Our hotel is right near Columbus Circle. Does the subway go straight from LGA to Manhattan or do we have to swap somewhere?

Cheers.

EDIT: I just did a taxi estimator and it said $31 (incl tip) which isn%26#39;t bad once divided between 3. So now my question is, do you think we have enough time to get from LGA to the hotel and then to the tour? What%26#39;s traffic like that time of day?

Bump.

Since the subway doesn%26#39;t go to LaGuardia Airport, that pretty much eliminates that as an option, doesn%26#39;t it?

EDIT: Well, you could take a bus or a taxi to the subway -- but if the idea is getting into town quickly, that isn%26#39;t much help. Besides, even if you did that, none of the subway lines in Queens go to Clumbus Circle; you would thus end up taking a bus or a taxi to the subway, and then a train into Manhattan, and then changing for another train to Columbus Circle. Considering the fact that you don%26#39;t know the subway system well (or otherwise you would have known that the subway doesn%26#39;t go to LGA), and are likely to take the wrong train, that strikes me as not the best choice when speed is of the essence.

Hi Greenwhiteblue,

Thanks for the reply regarding the subway but I did note on my second post that I found out a taxi was pretty cheap and have decided to get a taxi so my real question is now, travel time and what traffic is like at 1.00pm on a Sunday and if we鈥檇 make a 3pm tour. I鈥檝e already ruled the subway out.

It could be tight. even with a taxi. Will the flight be on time, is there luggage wait or walk on with luggage, events in NYC that day, a lot of unknowns, but on a '; normal '; type Sunday 2 hrs should be OK.

It depends. It might be easy to get into town -- or it might not. Will any cars break down on the FDR drive that day, causing congestion? Will all lanes be open on the Triborough Bridge? Will there be a parade on Fifth Avenue that day? When I look into my Magic 8 Ball, I get the message ';Future cloudy, ask again later';. One thing you might do is see whether there are any events on that unnamed Sunday that might affect traffic.
