Layover in Newark

Hi there,

I will transit Newark next week, coming from Ireland, and flying onward to San Diego. Both flights are with Continental, and to/from terminal C. Can anyone tell me how the transfer system works? I believe that we need to pick up checked luggage and re-check it for the onward flight. Does this take long? Are there any other complications I should know of?

I%26#39;m hoping it will be simple, as we have less than 2 hours for the transfer.

Thanks in advance.

Trish

The good news is that you should clear US Immigration in Ireland before you depart, which will save some time for you on arrival. Once at Newark you will follow the signs to Immigration but will be routed around it by employees, pay attention to the person saying ';Ireland passnegers, this way, Ireland passengers this way...'; as you enter the Immigration area.

Then you%26#39;ll be in baggage claim, you get your bags and walk through Customs. They may, but usually don%26#39;t, stop you for a bag inspection. Right outside of the exit is the area for recheckng bags, you just hand your luggage over to them. (It should already have the tag on it for your final destination).

Then it%26#39;s off to go through security again.

Without checked bags, I did this whole process from an Ireland flight in about 20 minutes from landing just last week, but I was one of the first off the plane. ';With'; checked bags it could take a bit longer, but you should be OK with your connection.

Thank you so much for that reply - I%26#39;m now reassured!

Very helpful indeed.

Hi,

I just seen your post and I will have a 16 year

old daughter flying from Dublin to Newark and then

on to San Diego, she flys into terminal C and departs

from terminal C. Is this the same as you did.

Any other information would be great.

Anna, this post is quite old and the OP is no longer reading tripadvisor. Her last post was in Dec. 08. You%26#39;ve also posted on the NY Forum which doesn%26#39;t get many readers instead of NY CITY forum which is here

I think the answer will be the same as she got, but you might want to repost the question on the NY City forum.
