Lake George Area for just two days -- Which area is best?

Our family of four (inc. a 15 y.o. and an 11 y.o.) will make a quick pit stop at Lake George en route to Vermont. We%26#39;ll have a full day and night (plus half the next day) to get a taste of the area. I know about all the activities, but am just looking for feedback on which area to actually stay -- in terms of experiencing lake life, dining, shopping, etc. -- Bolton%26#39;s Landing (Lake Shore Drive) or Lake George Village (Canada Street and vicinity). Would like to literall stay as close to the water as possible. Any input would be appreciated!

Lake George Area for just two days -- Which area is best?

I prefer Bolton Landing to Lake George Village. It is a bit more upscale, and not as crowded as the village. That said, I think your kids might enjoy the liveliness of the village. (do they want to mini-golf and play at the arcades?)

If I were considering a place to stay, the most important factor (to me) would be the view and the waterfront.

Bolton Landing is not too far from the attractions (ie Outlet shopping, boat cruises, Great Escape Amusement Park, etc.), but the village is closer. HTH.

Like Kelly, I like Bolton Landing more than LG Village. The Sagamore is the nicest hotel in the entire area - but it is also the most expensive. To experience the lake the best thing to do is rent a boat in Bolton Landing and visit the Narrow.

Thanks for your feedback. Just one other question. Is there a lakeside trail or pathway that one could take to walk from the Bolton%26#39;s Landing area to Lake George Village?

There is no lakeside trail - that is virtually all private land. There is a roadway that many people walk even though there is no sidewalk. If you do it, be careful, walk facing traffic and be prepared to jump out of the way. Lake George Village to Bolton Landing is about 9 miles so it is a good long walk. There are many nice hikes around Bolton Landing and Lake George that are more secenic and safer.
