My husband and I will be bringing our three kids, 15, 13 %26amp; 8 to New York for a summer vacation. We are trying to decide between two hotels, both look great. Important features we are looking for: location to public transportation, good food, sight seeing, shopping and safety. We have narrowed it down to the Hilton Garden Inn and the Residence Inn, both in Times Square. Any suggestions or opinions are greatly appreciated. We will be driving up from Texas and need to be able to park our car close or directly at the hotel and leave it for the three days we are there.
Hilton Garden Inn vs. Residence Inn Times Square
This is an easier decision than you think :-)
The Times Square Residence Inn won%26#39;t work for you %26amp; your family of 5. *All* of their rooms have just 1 queen or king bed, and the sofabed isn%26#39;t wide enough (it%26#39;s really the size of a loveseat) to comfortably accommodate 2 kids. Moreover, they do not have rollaway beds.
Marriott declares that all of the rooms in this particular Residence Inn have a maximum occupancy of just 3 guests. Although they seem to have been willing in the past to accept 2 kids, they have turned down requests from other 5-member families.

Thank you for pointing that out, that does make a difference. I don%26#39;t really want to mess with a sofabed if I don%26#39;t need to. :)
Actually I don%26#39;t think the Hilton Garden Inn is that great an option with 5 of you in a room either. Their largest rooms have 2 queen beds and not sure they%26#39;ll allow a roll away in addition. Have you considered a suite hotel? For example, the Embassy Suites has 1 bedroom suites with 2 double beds in the bedroom plus a sofabed in the living room. There are some good special prices for it featured on
travelzoo.com
The Affinia.com hotels are also suites with larger rooms. Without a suite with 2 beds and a sofabed, I don%26#39;t see how you%26#39;ll fit 5 of those ages in 1 room.
No one location is going to be perfect for everything you list. The Times Square area offers a lot of what you want but is not the best area for shopping. The Doubletree Guest Suites is the only suite hotel option there but will likely be much pricier unless you can find a deal. Getting around by public transportation is easy.
radiocityapartments.com
is also near Times Square but gets booked quickly.
Once you decide on a hotel, have a look on
bestparking.com
for garages nearby. The
iconparking.com
garages allow you to reserve in advance and will guarantee price if you%26#39;ve printed out the confirmation. This will usually be a lot cheaper than using the hotel%26#39;s services. Most hotels don%26#39;t have their own garages and use one nearby.
Thank you so much for all the great info! I have booked us a great room at the Doubletree Suites in Times Square and we are so excited! I am worried about the parking and frankly driving into NY but hopefully we will get there early in the a.m., park and leave it there. Best Wishes and thanks so much. :)
