Hey everyone :)
My sister inlaw and myself are traveling to New york city from Australia in November this year (24th of November to the 1st of December are the dates) for 7 nights.
We are wondering what to wear? We have been told its going to be very cold. And is it going to be to cold to go walking around the city?
We are staying at Crown Plaza Time Square, Is there any good places to eat for dinner around there for a reasonable price (around $20USD to $30USD per person)?
What are some Ideas for things to do on Thanksgiving?
We know that the day after thanksgiving is the start of a big shopping weekened, What can we expect at the stores? And what sort of bargins can we hope to pick up?
Thanks everyone in advance :)
A few questions?
I%26#39;m sure one of the locals, NYC regulars, or DE%26#39;s will be along shortly to answer your questions. As for food, I love browsing through Menu Pages. You can find restaurants by location and have a look @ their menu for pricing (I guess it%26#39;s current?) and food offerings. Perhaps this might be a good place to start. You can also check out the ';stickys'; @ the top of the page. There is lots of good info there including restaurant information.
Good luck and happy planning.

A few questions?
I%26#39;ll leave your dinner and shopping questions to the experts. With regards to the weather, it%26#39;s not unreasonable to expect temperatures between 20F and 40F (-6.5 to 4.5 C) at that time. Of course, anything can happen when it comes to weather. My advice to you is to wear layers.
That is a -6.5 to +4.5 C
Welcome to the forum. You%26#39;ll have a great time.
Most of your questions are very popular on this forum. Try using the forum search box for topics like ';clothing for winter.'; or ';Thanksgiving Day.';
Here is a page from the ';Before You Go'; area (in the left margin) answering this specific question.

Crowds of people enjoy the Macy%26#39;s Thanksgiving Day parade on Thanksgiving itself, or you can stay in and watch it on TV. Another big tradition is watching college football tournaments all afternoon (American football, that is).
The day after Thanksgiving is the start of the Christmas shopping season and nicknamed ';Black Friday'; because that%26#39;s when businesses pray the ledger sheet totals turn from ';red'; to ';black.';
To give you an analogy you might relate to, the crowds on Black Friday are like piranhas on a bleeding sheep trying to swim.
Try searching ';Black Friday'; in the search box. There are even a few first-hand accounts of this feeding frenzy!
There are countless places to eat in your price range. Any particular foods you love, or hate, or always wanted to try?
In general, it does not get ';very cold'; until after the first of the year, but there are excpetions. There have been years with over a foot of snow on Thanksgiving, and there have been years when only a light jacket would be required, but I would not expect it to be too cold to walk around with proper clothing. There are lots of good places to eat, and you should look at the lists others have referenced. You will, again in general, get better food in that price range by walking west to 9th Ave. although there are some good places much closer. And you shouldn%26#39;t be timid about hopping to another neighborhood; it%26#39;s easy.
Thanksgiving is a pretty lonely day in the city, except for the parade, which you should definitely plan to do. Also, if the weather cooperates it might be a good day to take in the architectural sites that don%26#39;t require anything to be open.
I%26#39;ll leave the shopping to others.
We are willing to try anything and everything. We want to have what New Yorkers have really. So basically what the locals eat.
We have just booked our flights and accommodation yay. Look out New York here we come.
If you walk over to Ninth Avenue, you will find yourself on a stretch of street that is loaded with restaurants, many of which are very reasonably priced. Most have their menus posted near the door; just browse from one to the other until you see one that fits your fancy and your purse.
