Hi there. My husband and I will be in NYC July 21-24 and are going to a 7:05pm Yankee game on July 23. I%26#39;m wondering if it would be fun to eat an early dinner at a nearby restaurant before heading to the game or if we should just eat hot dogs in the stadium.
Also, how early do we need to be to the game?
We are staying in Midtown Manhattan and are planning on taking the subway up to the stadium so any special insight on that might be great.
Thanks!
Dinner before the Yankee game?
The best food in the neighborhood is the Jamaican at the Feeding Tree:

A lot of people seem to like the Press Cafe, but I%26#39;m not a fan:

Giovanni%26#39;s at 150th and the Grand Concourse serves decent Italian:

Which subway you%26#39;ll take depends on where in midtown you%26#39;re coming from.
Dinner before the Yankee game?
At the corner of 161st Street and Walton Avenue is a kosher style deli. The food is consistently good, and you can get baseball compatible food such as hot dogs, milk shakes, etc. Its my go to place before the game. After dinner, head to the Press Cafe for a beer or two. Better hot dogs, better beer, about quarter of the price.
Now, you can go to the game without paying the ridiculous prices for hot dogs and beer. Getting to the game at 6:45 would be fine, provided that you already have tickets.
These sound like great options! I%26#39;m thinking lamb curry sounds a lot more like my style than a hotdog! Early dinner it is!
Just wondering how early we need to be at the stadium if our game is at 7:05, though. Thoughts?
And when I ask that question it is because I%26#39;m clearly not smart enough to read the last line of your post. 6:45 it is! ;)
';At the corner of 161st Street and Walton Avenue is a kosher style deli.';
Are you talking about the Court Deli, BrooklynMel? If so, it%26#39;s really more of a diner. The food is mediocre and slightly overpriced, and the place tends to be really packed on game days. The next time you%26#39;re up for a game, I%26#39;d suggest checking out Feeding Tree or Giovanni%26#39;s. Sure, the restaurant options in the neighborhood are limited, but not so much that anyone needs to eat at this place.
It is the Court Deli. What I normally do is get a couple of hot dogs, a potato knish and a vanilla shake to go. I then take it to the Courthouse and eat on the steps. Thus, no crowds. I%26#39;ve always felt that their prices were fair.
Now, there is no way that the Deli could be confused with ';fine dining.'; But before a game, a couple of kosher hot dogs just hits the spot.
