Catskills- suggestion on things to do in the area?

I will going to the Catskills with my husband. He will be participating a card tournament.

So, I would like some ideas on what to do in the area on the last Saturday in May. I also enjoy hiking but I am not familiar with the area and will be alone so I would love a recommendation for a short easy hike.

I would be thankful for any suggestions.

The New York State Park at North/South Lake has several short easy hikes, but there are hiking trails all through the area. Where abouts in the Catskills are you staying?

We will be staying in Round Top.

If you are staying at Riedlbauer%26#39;s, there are many hiking trails right on the property. Just a short walk down the road is another very nice resort ';Glen Falls House'; They also have a very nice hiking trail leading the the waterfalls. Hope you have a great time.

there is canoeing (spelling problem!) at Calicoon NY. Nice easy ride down the river...we had lots of fun.

The hike to Kaaterskill Falls is well worth doing. It is only about 0.5 miles each way and follows the creek to the falls, which are the highest in the state. It is not a paved trail and has a few up and downs (not always level). The trail is off Rt. 23A in Haines Falls (not far from Hunter and Tannersville).

I will be staying at Crystal Brook. How do I get to Kaaterskill Falls from here?

Thank You for all your help.

From Round Top, pick up state route 32 south to route 23A west after about 3 miles. Route 32 passes through the small town of Palenville then ascends and is curvy. The traihead will be at a sharp turn in the road (right side) just after you cross a bridge. The parking area is a short distance beyond this on the left. It is a relatively small parking area and fills up fast; you can also park along the side of the road if needed. It is 7 miles from the turnoff for route 32 to Haines Falls. The trailhead/parking lot is about a mile before this. Total ditance from Round Top to Haines Falls is around 13 miles (20 minutes).

Just re-read my post and realized an error. Route 32A is the curvy road; not route 32.

Wow, mistyped it again - it should say route 23A ...
