I will be traveling to Canada from Buffalo NY. Before heading home to TX, I am thinking to drive to New York City and stay a night there then going back to Buffalo.
1) What is best hotel or place for a family of 4 (from $150 or less a night)?
2) Since I drive a car, is it best to leave car at the hotel and ride a bus if I want to visit Statue of Liberty? Which hotel has bus stop?
3) Or should I rent a hotel located outside of New York City, then drive my rental car to visit Statue of Liberty or else.
Thanks in advance.
Where should I stay in New York?
Your post makes little sense. Are you aware that it is nearly 400 miles from Buffalo to NYC? Or that Buffalo is in the wrong direction from travelling form NYC to Texas? You don%26#39;t want to use a car AT ALL while visiting New York City, and while we have lots of buses and subways, you seem to have forgotten that the Statue of Liberty is on an island in the harbor, and you reach it by boat.

Imo, a crazy idea. This is a very long drive. If you haven%26#39;t already bought your airline tickets, you might consider another option. If you can, tell us what you plan.
1)Hotel prices fluctuate based on date. Finding a room for under $150 for 4 will be difficult but will depend on WHEN. Right now, the Embassy Suites has a special on
travelzoo.com
for $159/night plus tax (15%) but it also includes full cooked breakfast. There are some other good hotels listed on travelzoo like the Affinia 50, Affinia Manhattan and Holiday Inn 6th ave. Most are good for weekend nights (Thurs-Sun)
2) Leave the car (if you have to drive) in a garage and use public transportation. You might also consider parking the car at the Port Imperial ferry terminal in Weehawken, NJ ($10/day) and leaving it there. All hotels will be near a subway or bus stop in Manhattan. Subway is an easy way to get around. The Embassy Suites happens to be near the ferries to SOL. You should know though that a visit to the Statue is one of the most time consuming things you can do b/c of security. If you want to go, buy tickets in advance online at
statuecruises.com
and make sure to reserve monument passes.
Faster and easier (and FREE) is taking the Staten Island ferry roundtrip for views of the SOL.
3) If the SOL is your primary interest, you could stay in New Jersey in Jersey City and drive to Liberty State Park and visit the statue from there. It%26#39;s usually less crowded from that side.
My original plan is to go to Niagara Falls. On the way home flying back to TX, I thought that I can stay a few days in Buffalo, NY, then visit SOL too. I know it is far as not in my original plan. As it is too far, I can stay at a hotel in Binghamton or else which is half way. Yeah, I can leave car at the hotel to ride bus or ferrie to the SOL island. Little over $150/night is acceptable for me.
