Looking to rent a car from JFK and drive around NYC.
Get in at midnight during the week.
1) Any recommendations on late night pizza slices. Possibly a 24 hour - since we arrive so late.
2)Carnige deli worth it?
3) Drive by attractions at night like Empire State, Ground Zero Etc. Any other recommendations
Thank you
What to do with an 9 hour layover?
Why would you rent a car? Where would you put it if you want to get out to, say, eat? It would help to know more about your situation (as in, is someone in your party mobility-impaired and that%26#39;s why you need the car?).

Agree that driving around in a city you don%26#39;t know well is a bad idea. You%26#39;ll have to swallow the car. ;) It%26#39;s not like CA where you can find parking everywhere. If the objective is to find some good pizza, some of the best is actually in Brooklyn where it may be easier to find parking. Here%26#39;s some info with some late night options. Most of Brooklyn is not any further from JFK than Manhattan.

maps.google.com
will show you distances.
menupages.com
is a good guide for restaurants and has a features drop down menu with places that are open 24/7.
2) Only if you love pastrami which is what they%26#39;re known for. Most people prefer 2nd ave. Deli or Katz%26#39;s.
3)Absolutely NO point in driving by attractions. Places like ESB are noteworthy for their height which will be totally lost on you from a car.
If money is not object, your best bet might be to hire a limo and driver for a few hours. We%26#39;ve heard good things about

Driving around - Not
Carnegie Deli - worth it?? Well yes, if you like deli!
Driving by the ESB???? Did you thik about thais before you wrote the questuion?
Ground Zero (hate that connotation)- you would have to get out of the vehicle to properly pay your respects.
Any other recco%26#39;s, yes don%26#39;t rent a car!
NYC airports are huge and inconvenient.
Besides, renting a car at JFK alone can cut an hour into the trip, the depending on travel, an hour to Manhattan, and hour back, then return the car more time? And as for parking it in NYC???? Huh? So what could you see then? Hope you enjoy the Midtown Tunnel areas, thats about all you%26#39;d see.
And it could easily cost over $100.
So, yes, use everyone%26#39;s public transportation ideas.
Oh, and Welcome! ; )
Thank you all for the great info.
Besides everything else, parking is so expensive. Better off cabbing it in to the cityor hiring a car and taking the subway all over..Or the tour buses or a cab (cans are cheap in NYC)
We go to the city a couple of times a year. We park at a train station (free) and don%26#39;t need a car until we%26#39;re ready to go home. We HAVE brought our car and just parked it,in a hotel related parking lot, until we go home. 20...35...up to 80.00 a day!!!
1- What neighborhood are you staying in?
2- I Like it and think it should be experienced at least once..:)
3-Go to the Top of the Rock at dusk or take the NY Waterways City Lights ';tour';.
I am from California originally..We drove everywhere..It%26#39;s just not like that here!
Oh CARP..Sorry Just read the TITLE..9 hour layover..in the middle ofthe night..
