Hi
I am travewlling to NY in August with my family, from the UK. We have never been to NY before, so we have no idea at all about travelling around the city!
We will be arriving into JFK at around mi-day and need to get from the airport to our accommodation in the Radio City Apartments. There will be 5 of us - 2 adults and 3 teenagers (ages 19, 16 and 13).
I would really appreciate some guidance on how to get to these apartments by subway or whatever is the most straightforward way.
Thanks in advance!

Travel from JFK to Radio City Apartments
Thanks!
From reading this and other posts, it sounds like a taxi might be a good option.
Can anyone advise whether a yellow cab would be likely to take a family of 5 with luggage (and all kids are fairly large!)?
And approximate cost to Radio City Apts?
Taxi is a flat fare of $45.00 plus tolls and tip, so approximately $60.00
It takes about an hour with some traffic. Less time if no traffic (but there is seldom no traffic).
It would also take about an hour and cost considerably less to take the JFK AirTrain to Jamaica and then take the E train to a short walk from the hotel.
You can do the roundtrip on public transport for approximately $50.00, less if you%26#39;re buying an unlimited ride MetroCard for your stay.
Thanks again for this!
So forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but could you tell me where i would get off the %26#39;E Train%26#39; if I take that from Jamaica? Which is the nearest stop for Radio City?
Als, what is the %26#39;Metro Card%26#39;that you refer to and how do they work? Would I be able to buy one (or maybe 5, one for each of us?) at Jamaica or at JFK?
Hi, travelled from JFK 3 years ago to Radio City Apartments and chose the Shuttle bus. Doing it again this year into Midtown area and will travel by Shuttle bus once again as it allows for larger numbers and SUITCASES. Not sure how many people taxis will accomodate.
My only advise would be to pre-book if travelling with a large group. Pretty straightforward once you arrive and the trip took 45 minutes. (late evening)
Subway is excellent for everyday travelling, convenient, safe and efficient. Loved it.
Enjoy every moment.

The suggestion to use a shared-van shuttle is incredibly bad advice. The shuttles such as Super Shuttle may be fine elsewhere, but in NYC they tend to be incredibly lousy. They are slow and unreliable, and chances are you would be dragged around the airport and then around the city until the van was full. There is no guarantee that you would be dropped off first. Beyond that, five people using Supershuttle would pay $69, while a taxi, including tolls and tips, would be less than that. The suggestion to use a shuttle is thus a suggestion for WORSE service at a HIGHER price.
There are five-passenger taxis; you could ask the dispatcher for one when you are in the taxi queue. You can also call a car service such as dial7 and ask for a 5-passenger vehicle. a 5 passenger taxi costs no more than a typical sedan taxi, and the cost door to door would be about $60, including tolls and tip.
The cost of 5 people using the AirTrain + the subway would be $35. Frankly, I think you would be better off with the taxi.
When you arrive at JFK Airport, you%26#39;d simply follow the signs to the AirTrain, that is very easy. Unlike Heathrow where the rail lines are difficult to reach, the JFK AirTrain is very easy.
It takes about ten to fifteen minutes to reach Jamaica depending on which terminal you are arriving. British Airways is the second to last stop in the airport so it is only about ten minutes once you%26#39;re on the AirTrain.
Fares are paid at Jamaica. No fare is paid inside the airport.
When you get to Jamaica there are uniformed people available to help you. They%26#39;re actually very friendly and there are lots of them. It is a very nice modern station, lots of machines to buy MetroCards from, no crowds, very nice.
The 10 ride JFK AirTrain card is $40.00. It can only be swiped four times, then it requires you wait 18 minutes. This is why if you have five people you have to buy a separate $10.00 card for the roundtrip for the fifth person.
Keep the AirTrain MetroCards separate from your subway MetroCards.
Buy your subway MetroCard at the subway station. You%26#39;ll simply follow the signs to the E train, easy. Buy your unlimited ride (or Pay-per-ride) card there.
Simply take the E train to the 7th Avenue station. The station is at 7th Avenue and 53rd Street, a very short walk from Radio City Apartments.
You can take as much luggage as you want on the AirTrain and the subway. The subway will not be very crowded when you board in Jamaica.
Green, white, blue- will take that advice on board for myself and my travelling companions for our trip.
Thanks. CJ
Thanks very much all, appreciate all the help!
Just to let you know, I took the airtrain from JFK to RCA (and back to JFK) with no problems.
MoreFFmiles even threw in a transfer which put me even closer to RCA if you want to PM him and ask.
Taxi will be around $60 if you go that way.
