Okay, weird question maybe but here goes . . . I understand some places serve HUGE portions. Is lunch at Katz%26#39;s Deli and dinner at Carmine%26#39;s too much? How about lunch at Eammon Doran and dinner at Bohemian Hall? Thanks again everyone!
too much food?
Just a suggestion but you might get more response if you clariy your question a bit...such as, too much for who/how many/what age, etc.....
I believe at Katz%26#39;s you can order one sandwich but ask that they make it into 2, for a minumal fee of course.
Also, I think at Carmine%26#39;s you do get large portions (familoy style) but how much is too much depends on how many different dishes you order.......
too much food?
Excuse me...that would be ';clarify';.....
A lot depends on what you order and where you order it. If you%26#39;re at an informal deli, it%26#39;s no big deal to split a sandwich. At a more formal place, there are charges associated with splitting entrees, etc.
It%26#39;s easy to share things at Katz%26#39;s (you might have to pay for extra bread to make 2 sandwiches from one)and dishes at Carmine%26#39;s are meant to be shared. If you are only 2 people, I wouldn%26#39;t go to Carmine%26#39;s at all.
Hopefully restaurants will reduce portions as much of it goes to waste. I prefer small portions of something that tastes really good. Carmine%26#39;s offers lots of food but checking this forum and the Zagat guide might provide you with more options for dining. Have a great visit.
If NC means North Carolina, then outside of the overstuffed sandwiches at the delis that cater to tourists and a few other places (Carmine%26#39;s), you%26#39;ll probably find that NYC restaurants serve portions that are smaller than you%26#39;re used to.
I don%26#39;t have a direct answer to your question, but a suggestion. When we were in NY recently, we ate at one restaurant that gave us a huge basket of bread with our meal. There was no way we were going to eat it all, plus our meals. At the end, there was still probably 3/4 of a basket left. We asked the waitress if we could take it, since it would just go to waste. Although she seemed to think it was an odd request (as, apparently, was vinegar to go with french fries...), she wrapped it up for us. DH gave it to some guy hunkering down outside GCT later that night. He appreciated it, and we were glad it didn%26#39;t go to waste.
If you are in a restaurant and get served too much food for you, ask to get the leftovers ';to go.'; New York restaurants, even the fancy ones, are used to this suggestion. Late that nite in your hotel room, you can have a great snack.
