Right decision? hotel & tickets

Hey!

My boyfriend and I are coming to NYC in July and we hope you kind people will be able to answer us a few questions. We are in our twenties and this will be our first time in NYC, so we%26#39;ll be mostly doing sightseeing and shopping.

1)We have a reservation in Hampton Inn Soho but we just found equally good deal in Hamptonn Inn Chelsea. Which area is better for first time tourists?

2)The second thing is that we really, really want to get tickets for The Daily Show or Colbert Report! We%26#39;ve been trying for several months now but no luck. We%26#39;ve read on this forum that on certain hours of the day (Thursday, Friday, Saturday)sometimes dates turn up but not sure if that%26#39;s true. Is there any chance we could get standby tickets?

I hope you guys can help us!Thanks!

Right decision? hotel %26amp; tickets

I would consider the Hampton Inn Soho a better location and also because of the fact that it has been opened more recently. If you look at the pictures here, you can see that more attention has been paid to details.

As for the television shows, I can%26#39;t help you with that. Sorry;(

Right decision? hotel %26amp; tickets

Neither Soho nor Chelsea are necessarily ';typical'; locations for most first time tourists who often opt to stay in midtown (34 st. - 59 st.). Both areas are south of midtown with Chelsea being just south and Soho further. But I always think it%26#39;s better to stay in an area near good restaurants and nightlife (which both Soho and Chelsea have) vs. near the ';tourist sights'; which are scattered around but somewhat concentrated in midtown.

I agree with Cricri that the Hampton Inn Soho is better in that it%26#39;s a newer hotel but the Chelsea location has larger rooms and is somewhat closer to midtown. So bottom line, each has pros and cons. I would probably go for the Soho location but understand it is further from Times Square, Central Park, Rockefeller Center etc. Have you had a look on a map?

There is lots of info online about getting tickets to tv shows. Have you tried a simple google search?

No guarantee of course, but it%26#39;s true in the sense that it%26#39;s definitely possible; that%26#39;s how I snagged tix for my son %26amp; his friends last month. Check the websites before you leave and even once you get here (if you can); day-of cancellations mean you%26#39;ll sometimes see availability pop up for that day%26#39;s taping.

Info re: stand-by tix for The Daily Show here, plus e-mail address to send a request:
