How much time should one allocate to visit the nmai?

Wondering if an hour would be enough to visit this museum.

Yes, an hour is enough, and it is a very interesting place!

Part of the national Smithsonian Institution i Washington DC. Sometimes they have shows, with Native American dancing. They have 2 gift shops, one on each level, with unique items. (hint: good for gifts, esp. representative of the ';First Americans';)

Forum US Customs House/interesting interior architecture.

Also it is near Staten Island ferry/Battery Park and the ';Sphere'; taken from the plaza of the World Trade Center just after 9/11.

O, I love that site!

I had sort of decided to skip this museum, even though I%26#39;m totally fascinated by the native Indians and have rows of books on my shelves.

But now I know that that%26#39;s a no-go!

One hour should be enough, eh, that%26#39;s good to know. My nephew can come or he can amuse himself elsewhere in the vicinity. What I understand, that should not be too difficult, right?

An hour or two would be just right. There are many sites near the Museum that would be also worth visiting. These are:

Staten Island Ferry

Battery Park

Wall Street and Federal Hall

South Street Seaport

St. Paul%26#39;s Chapel

The Charging Bull

Thank you NYNM and BrooklynMel. It%26#39;ll be a very full day but I%26#39;m so glad I%26#39;ll be able to include this museum during my visit. I am interested in the history and culture of the indigenous people of the countries I visit.

Meyem: I think you will like the museum - it is a ';hidden gem.';

Your nephew (how old?) can certainly keep busy around the museum - esp. with Battery Park right there, but why wouldn%26#39;t he want to see the museum? It is good for all ages, small and well executed.
